My mentor... Dearest Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's

At most things except sports, I have to admit that I'm a late bloomer. I was the last one to do my eye brows, last one to shave my legs, last one to do my make up (although lately getting more serious about it), last one to get a crush and the list goes on. I'm also a late bloomer when it comes to looking up to someone else because all my life I had myself to depend on. I'm not complaining. It's nice to be independent.

That was until I got fed up hearing about other people raving about Audrey Hepburn and Breakfast at Tiffany's. I heard it everywhere and at that time, I wasn't so into the Classic movies. I was thinking that it must be so boring because it's just black and white. Out of all of her movies, I chose Breakfast at Tiffany's. I-was-mesmerized. No wonder she is an icon.

I love all of her movies Breakfast at Tiffany's, Roman  Holiday, Sabrina, The Nun's Story and My Fair Lady are among my favorites.

Her onscreen presence is quite amazing and she's really adorable. Other than her movies, I love her make up as she kept it natural. I do believe though that she filled her eyebrows with pencil to make them thicker. Her doe eyed eyes are also something you can't ignore. I simply love her style as it was simple yet elegant. So lady like.

Who else can also not think all of her quotes are memorable? I included only a few among many.

She for me was the whole package, elegant, beautiful, generous and kind. Her acting career lasted from 1949 - 1989. From 1989 and onwards she was a humanitarian. I find it admirable that she was far from selfish. She used her money also to reach out to those who needed it.

So in memory of her, this whole post has been dedicated to yours truly,

Do you idolize Audrey Hepburn? Who is your mentor? I'd love to hear from you. :)

Finesse Makeover tour 2012 - I'll take care of you

Last December, me and my officemate Sanne decided to join the Finesse Haircare I'll take care of you Makeoverat the office. They did our hair and make up. I was so amused because I actually liked their shampoo and conditioner that they used on me. Can't quite recall what it was again, but I can definitely remember it was just standard anyway.

So here we are agreed to do the makeover. We were thinking that it wouldn't cost us anything and we'd look better so why not?

I was laughing here because he asked me if I felt okay or something like that and I said I was fine except for the coldest hair shower that I've ever had and he said the cheesy line "I'll take care of you". LOL

Okay, I was kinda freezing here. Good thing Sanne was rather chatty. I just wanted it to end.

"Smile for the camera, girls"

Next step, makeup.

With my MUA. I was all giddy here.

Tada!

We both got ourselves a picture like this. I even agreed to join the Candidate with the most likes gets to join the Finals. That was not easy and I don't think I'll join a competition like this again because it was intense and the other competitors really were so lustful for the Grand Prize and Apple Ipad. I made it to the top 5 from Aegis Makati with my picture though.

Now I made it to the Finals and seeing how eager my competitors got, I got stuck at 29 Facebook likes wherein my competitors were already at over 500. My luck had ended. I could only imagine how much advertising they must have done through their friends to get so many FB likes. I just didn't wanna pursue it anymore.

I was invited to attend the finals but I just didn't wanna bother anymore to go when I heard that the winner with the most FB likes in the finals would be the Grand winner. I had no reason to go there. Heck, it was still a fun experience. It was kind of an eye opener for me because it didn't feel like a fair competition because anyone could win through FB likes. It doesn't matter what you look like as long as you knew the correct people. I knew for myself that I had nothing to prove. I loved being me. I didn't need to win anyway. I was fine with it.

Though I was completely zapped of energy for doing all the FB likes promotion thing, I was left with this funny video. I can recall while doing the interview that there were so many lights around me and I was so ecstatic at that time. I had such a blast with Sanne. I guess that's all that matters, isn't it? :)

To all you girls out there, you need no crown, title nor gratification to be proud of yourselves. All you need is to love yourself for who you are. You have your own talents that you were born with. Just make the best of it. Be proud to simply be yourself.

Anette

My humble makeup/beauty stash

As I've mentioned previously, I am merely new to all beauty and make up hence I only have the basic necessities available. For now that is. ;) I'm sure that eventually it will grow to improve like the rest of the beautyholics out there. I have to confess, I'm such a tomboy. LOL

I present to you my stash (Picture overload)

These are the Pressed Powders that I use (L-R e.l.f. Two - Way Cake Foundation spf 15 Pale Peach, Maybelline Clear Smooth Natural SPF 20, The Body Shop Extra Virgin MineralsShade: 205 Rose Vanilla SPF 15. I use The Body Shop Extra Virgin Minerals less because it doesn't fit my Combination skin and leaves my face feeling greasy.

For my Liquid Foundations is the Ever Bilena Pro Flawless Finish Foundation and I also included the Etude House Precious Minerals Sun BB Cream as a foundation because it's practically the same thing. For me at least.

Below are my blushes Koshize from Sophie Martin in Pink Delight Blush On and Nichido True Colors Collections Blushing Pink.

Next I have the Careline eye shadow and blush palette. It was quite cheap actually and pigmented as well. It surely does its purpose.

My start up brushes so far, that is. This of course is buildable and I wll make additions when I have the chance to do so. (L-R Elf Powder Brush, Nichido 5 piece set of brushes.)

These are my two mascaras Nichido Length and Curl Mascara and the Maybelline Magnum Volume Express Mascara. The other two are in order, Ever Bilena Brown Mascara for my eye brows and the Etude House Eye Brow Pencil in No2 Dark Brown.

Here is my Nichido Liquid Eyeliner and my Ever Bilena HD Eye Pencil. Both are nice. I use the Eye Pencil more if I want smokey eyes because it smudges a lot.

From L-R Ever Bilena Lip Colour Xtreme Shine (Becomes matte on my lips though) Shade 703, Lancome Juicy Tubes Ultra Shiny Lip Gloss and Nivea Lip Care Fruity Shine Strawberry. The last one is my fave as I use this one on a reglar basis.

These are my Eyelash Curlers, Etude House and a random brand I found at the Grocery stand.

There you have it! :) I will do separate reviews for my products but this is step 1.

xoxo,

Anette

Meet and greet

At first, I'd like to introduce myself. I'm a Filipino-Norwegian and was born and raised in Norway and when I was 15, I moved here to the Philippines and 12 years later, I'm still here. I'm very much a laidback gal who doesn't wear much make up but I'm conscious on my looks because I have oily skin. Why did I start my own blog you say? Well, I feel there is a lack of blogs that feature affordable products, yes, the ones that you can buy practically anywhere but for a cheaper affordable price.

Personally, the reason why I tend to appreciate the more affordable stuff is because I don't splurge much on beauty. Many may digress that the more you spend, the more you get. Hence me being laid back comes back into the picture. I want to spend enough but for products that serves its purpose but doesn't cost an arm.

Several products will be featured on my blog from a simple lip care to the more expensive foundations (I did mention that I will focus on affordable products but I will not exclude the ones I'll splurge on).

So here we go! :)
